Boost social and economic progress through Sexual Reproductive Health Services

At the dawn of 21st century, 189 countries adopted the 8th Millennium Development Goals aiming at reducing poverty, disease and hunger. 15 years later, some MDGs are within reach (e.g. halving extreme poverty, access to water, sanitation and primary education), but the international community is still lagging behind in reducing infant, child and maternal mortality rates, and in increasing access to reproductive health care.**

Health sector reform, underway in many developing countries, has resulted in cuts in health expenditure. At the same time, these reforms are supposed to address problems of poor quality of services and in improving access for poor people. Meanwhile, medical and technological innovation provides new possibilities and opportunities to address access and quality issues.

Responding to the challenges, the Dutch government has chosen Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) as one of the priorities in its development cooperation policy. In support to the government’s efforts on promotion of SRHR, MSM and its partners jointly developed the Executive Program in Management of Sexual Reproductive Health Services.

The Management of Sexual Reproductive Health Services program aims at helping participants build management skills and competency to deal with changes and challenges in Sexual Reproductive Health services. Providing effective, efficient and good quality Sexual Reproductive Healthcare on a sustainable basis will contribute to reducing maternal mortality rates, curbing the spread of HIV/AIDS and preventing unwanted pregnancies, especially among teenagers. This will benefit the individuals for sure, but more importantly, it will boost social and economic progress in the countries concerned.

What to expect Topics included in the program are:

  • Development trends and challenges in SRH
  • Change Management in SRH Services
  • SRH Service Delivery Models
  • Financial and Cost Management in SRH Services
