Designing and managing Monitoring and Evaluation Systems for Development Projects
The development industry is becoming more and more demanding. Companies and NGOs are pressured by donor agencies (United Nations, European Union, etc) to show evidence of their capacity. Development professionals face increasingly high barriers to join the industry. Experience is a requirement but can only be gained through the understanding of how the industry works. Still, there are very few courses on how the industry is organized, its requirements and methodologies, how to manage the information that is overwhelmingly produced on a daily basis by the community of donors.
Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Systems are a requirement in all development projects. Donors have their own M&E systems and companies and NGOs have to design their own systems when answering to calls for tenders and calls for proposals. Demand from development agencies, companies and NGOs create an interesting market for monitoring and evaluation experts.
With the M&E 4 DEV program you will acquire the monitoring and evaluation skills highly demanded in the development industry. After following this course you will be capable of designing and managing Monitoring and Evaluation Systems which meet the standards of donor agencies.
Reasons to follow this course
1: Learn how to select data collection strategies and get acquainted with key issues about measures such as credibility, reliability, validity and precision
2: Benefit from a hands-on-approach based on real life cases enabling you to immediately apply the knowledge shared throughout course
3: Work in groups together with professionals from around the world, in a multicultural and diverse environment
4: Gain insights on how multilateral agencies manage their operations

What to expect
As a participant to the Monitoring & Evaluation in Development Projects executive program, you will gain insights on recent trends on development evaluation and get acquainted with specific analytical and planning tools. You will learn the main characteristics of an M&E system, how to design and manage it making use of appropriate tools. The course will assist you in the design of an M&E system, using a step by step approach based on three critical questions: who needs to know? What do they need to know? How to transfer information to managers? Whilst answering these critical questions you will gain insights on data collection methods, data analysis and interpretation, reporting and how to design evaluation questions.
Learning objectives
You will learn the main steps in the design of an M&E System, including the identification of the corresponding information flows, selection of indicators and M&E areas. You will acquire skills to describe and select evaluation questions and how and when to apply them. You will also learn how to select data collection strategies and get acquainted with key issues about measures such as credibility, reliability, validity and precision. Finally the course will transfer knowledge on when to use qualitative and quantitative data and how to analyze both.
What your company will gain
Your company or NGO will gain in-house capacity to design and manage the M&E systems required by the development agencies. This will reduce the need to hire external experts and consultants to perform such tasks. If you are a development professional, you will offer your company M&E skills that are highly demanded in the development industry and simultaneously you will be equipped with the knowledge required to meet donor agencies’ standards in M&E systems.
