Enhancing women’s participation and leadership in business in developing countries

Despite the recognition of women entrepreneurs as key contributors to economic growth, women in developing countries continue to struggle to take their rightful place in the market place and remain underrepresented in business ownership.**

In this two-week program you will explore the various factors that influence the gender gap in entrepreneurship and what instruments and strategies work to overcome this gap. In the first week you are introduced to key concepts and frameworks to help understand women’s entrepreneurship from a gender perspective and the different actors, conditions, institutions and policies that can influence the entrepreneurial process.

The second week takes a more practical approach and focuses on the different solutions and instruments that are being offered to support women in overcoming barriers to entrepreneurship. We will look at real and innovative cases of for example, financing, policy reform, business development services, market access and empowerment. Participants will be working on the design of their own project aimed at strengthening women entrepreneurship in their own countries and receive coaching in the process. The program is especially beneficial for those policy makers in national or local government institutions, policy implementing agencies, chambers of commerce, business associations, NGO’s, higher education institutions and various other organizations.
